1. Who we are

TripSpanner (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is a multimodal travel planning platform operated by two BITS Pilani students. Our service helps travelers compare flights, trains, and bus routes across India. You can reach us at hello@tripspanner.com.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide route planning and improve the product:

Search data: Origin, destination, travel date, and transport mode preferences you enter into the search form.
Usage data: Pages visited, time on site, referring URL, browser type, and device type — collected via server logs and analytics.
Location data: If you type a home address into the search bar, we pass latitude/longitude to our API to resolve the nearest station or airport. This is not stored against any user identity.
Contact data: If you email us, we store your email address and message content to respond to you.
Cookies: We use minimal session and preference cookies. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

3. How we use your information

To compute and display multimodal route options.
To improve route accuracy and platform performance.
To detect and prevent abuse or misuse of the service.
To respond to support and feedback requests.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third-party advertisers.

4. Third-party services

TripSpanner uses the following third-party service that may process data on our behalf:

Google Maps Platform: Used for address autocomplete and geocoding. Google's privacy policy governs data sent to their APIs.

5. Data retention

Anonymised search query logs are retained for up to 90 days to improve route quality. Email correspondence is retained as long as needed to resolve the inquiry. We do not maintain user accounts, so there is no persistent personal profile stored.

6. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@tripspanner.com and we will respond within 30 days.

7. Children's privacy

TripSpanner is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us immediately.

8. Security

We use HTTPS everywhere, apply standard security headers (HSTS, X-Content-Type-Options, X-Frame-Options), and restrict database access to least-privilege credentials. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of TripSpanner after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
